The nail holds many aspects of important symbolism in the bible. It is most often associated with the crucifixion of Jesus and therefore his passion. On that day, Jesus was made to carry his own cross along the pathway to the hill where he would be subsequently crucified with three nails between criminals. Many of the leaders such as the chief priests and elders of the law saw that Jesus and his teachings were threatening the status quo. The miracles that were performed and the compassion he showed towards the sinful and lower members of society was seen as an offence against the Jewish law. Even Pontius Pilate himself regarded Jesus as innocent when he symbolically washed his hands to free himself of the responsibility of the bloodshed. Jesus himself even foreshadowed his own death as he explained to his disciples that he must be made to suffer at the hands of the elders and die as a sacrifice for the sins of man. “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). The nail bears the reminder that Jesus died so that we may have salvation from our sins, but we are also brought closer to God as “you who were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13).

The “Nail of Salvation” has been well endured, struck at the head of the nail leaving the scars of impact. As it entered the dense wood of the crucifix, the sides of the nail scathed by friction. The tip of the nail however, remains in high shine, the death of Jesus was never really the end, but rather, only the beginning.
